Dreams

September 2013 - Present

Art's Dream

Arts Dream was to be the single player portion of the Dreams package. The trojan horse that would sneak these powerful art tools into everyone’s homes. Because it was important to us that we demonstrate that Dreams can make any type of game we prototyped hundreds of gameplay ideas across a huge range of game genres. This is just a small selection of some of my favourites.

Education

I have used Dreams and the platform that PlayStation provide to promote the creative tools within education. I have worked with Bafta, BBC & Ukie to give live demos of the talks to school children at STEM events. I have also personally run game making workshops within local schools and Beaver Scout groups to allow students to get their hands on the tools. The long-term goal is to continue working with teachers to develop Dreams into a tool that teachers can use in schools to unlock students’ creative potential within the digital art space.

This area has been hugely important to me over that last few years and one I have really enjoyed pushing it slowly forwards!

Designing Creativity Tools

A big part of developing Dreams was the design of the actual tools themselves. Along with using the tools to develop gameplay prototypes we would also dive deep into the design of the tool themselves when the need arose.

Being one of the only level designers on the team I worked a lot with the programmers to hone the assembly tools to create a good balance between power and accessibility. To this day I feel the sculpting and assembly tools are the best in the industry.
